In this modern age with more people working from home and the average home having many electronic devices such as laptops, Smartphone, TVs, electronic door locks, thermostats and Netflix, a solid, reliable networking infrastructure solution is required for them all to function to their full potential. Most homes rely on WI-Fi which can become blocked up when all devices are connected at the same time. This can lead to problems such as buffering in video streams, latency in music streams, and signals that don’t reach their intended destinations. Our electricians can help if you are building a new home and need a high functioning network system. We recommend that you plan your network as follows: run at least two Cat 6 cables to each Ethernet jack (one for the network and one for future use). Position these Cat 6 cables in places where you plan on putting your TVs, computers, security cameras, and other devices. Each run of cable should then “home run” back to a central point, usually in an attic or utility room. Here you generally should position your Virgin media or Eir router in a rack along with network switches and other gear. Plan to spend between €80 and €140 per cable drop. For a finished home, fishing cabling will be more labour intensive, and therefore, more expensive.
